Cov Bodge
One of the bodging group - Dave Green - is the owner of one of Britain's last remaining chair-making factories. His company is based in the Warwickshire countryside on the outskirts of Coventry. Dave has been running this since 1989, and now employs about twenty skilled craftsmen producing over eight hundred chairs a month. During the week in the woods a familiar subject of conversation was how quickly and effortlessly simple tasks like adzing a seat were with the right machinery, and how back-breakingly slow the same task was when done completely by hand. So Dave suggested the team should reconvene in a few weeks time, with the aim of making a new set of chairs, and see what developed.
With the Milan show out of the way, the bodgers met up again on the 9th of July 2010, and for three days were let loose in a factory full of specialised chair-making machinery. The following photographs document what came to be known as 'Cov Bodge' :
